1. Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda



The Royal Palace is one of the city's iconic landmarks and the primary residence of the King of Cambodia. It comprises a throne and other precious monuments within a richly built complex. The highlight is the silver pagoda. Visitors can only visit the throne hall and a few buildings, depending on the season. There are also guided tours available in Khmer, English, French, and German. Remember to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting, even if you’re just visiting the gardens. And no photography allowed inside.

2. National Museum of Cambodia



The National Museum of Cambodia is located in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is the largest and central museum of the country, consisting of more than 15,000 collections depicting various periods in Cambodia's history. If you are interested in history, you will enjoy getting to know the past with these massive collections. It is a highly recommended attraction for tourists while traveling in Phnom Penh.

3. Wat Phnom



Wat Phnom is a large Buddhist temple located on the only hill in the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is the tallest religious structure in the town and is quite popular among the locals who come here to pray for good luck and success in their lives. It offers magnificent city views and is surrounded by a lovely garden.

4. Toul Sleng Genocide Museum



Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is a former secret prison, well-known as S-21, established during the Khmer Rouge. It is here that thousands of innocent Cambodian civilians were accused of crimes and imprisoned, tortured. Today, the prison has been converted into a museum that showcases the Genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge officials, including Pol Pot. Many of these were executed in the nearby killing fields. It is not a pleasant attraction, but worth a visit for tourists traveling in Phnom Penh to understand the country's dark history.

Entry Fee: 5 USD. Audio guides cost an additional 3 USD. An extra 6 USD for tour guides.

5. Choeung Ek Killing Fields



Choeung Ek Genocidal Centre is located about 15 km away, and it takes about 1 hour to reach Cheung Ek from outside the city of Phnom Penh. Infamously known as the Killing Fields, this is a mass grave site built to commemorate the deaths of thousands of civilians during the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1978. Tourists can get to know the entire dark history of this period on tours where they can see thousands of skulls and bones.
It is one of the most disturbing places to visit in Phnom Penh that showcases the mass murders of people who were held as prisoners in S-21 prison.

6. Shop in the Russian Market


The Russian Market is the hippest market in town and one of the largest in Phnom Penh. Stalls selling wooden handicrafts, antiquities, miniature Buddhas, fruits and veggies, jewelry, etc, occupy this market. You’ll see plenty of knock-off products with various brand tags. The market is also famous for Khmer iced coffee, elephant pants, grilled bananas, and bargaining.

7. Psar Thmei – Central Market



Psar Thmei, or the Central Market, is located under a dome and four extending ‘legs’(hallways) of the structure. It’s an Art Deco building in Cambodia with a bright splash of yellow on the outside. It has countless stalls ranging from gold and silverware to electronic goods to food stalls. It’s a prominent market in Phnom Penh and is usually pretty busy with locals and tourists shopping for goods.

8. Koh Dach (Silk Island)

Koh Dach consists of two islands connected by a small bridge - the main island with the same name and a smaller Koh Oknha Tei or Silk Island. These islands are located on the banks of the Mekong River at Kandal in Kon Dach Commune, close to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The islands are popular among tourists for their beaches and the handicrafts produced here by the locals. Silk Island gets its name from the silk weavers residing in a village. These silk weavers produce Cambodia's popular handmade fabric - Silk Scarf or Karma, sarongs, and other items from silk. So, on the island, we can see the mango and banana plantations and the different crops that are grown on the island. You will also visit a Silk Farm and a Buddhist monastery. Planning a day trip to Koh Dach Island while exploring Phnom Penh for a relaxing beach holiday is worth planning.

9. Sunset Cruise or Dinner on a cruise



This tour is one hour and thirty minutes and will give you a great opportunity to explore the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Four Faces River, Diamond Island, Fishing Village, Stilted Houses, the lifestyle of the people who live along the riverbank, and the city sunset
Chaktomuk Walk Street

Part of the riverside Walk Street area with evening activities, vendors, and sometimes performances (particularly weekends). Many locals and visitors mention that Walk Street (around Sisowath Quay in front of the Royal Palace) becomes a pedestrian-friendly space with nightlife and food stalls, especially in the evenings or on weekends.
