FYI about traveling in Cambodia

Any visitor needs a visa to enter the country. The visa can be obtained in Cambodian embassies abroad or at the airport upon arrival (two photos needed). Single-entry tourist visas cost US$30 and are valid for one month, renewable once. You can also ask for a US$35 one-month business visa, which can be extended to a multi-entry yearly visa at any travel agency.

What currency is used in Cambodia?

Good question! The national currency here is the Riel (1 US Dollar = approx. 4000-4200 Riels), but everyone can use US dollars in the country. Make sure you always have small change for tuk-tuk rides and small shops, as they probably won't accept a 50-dollar bill! It has been argued that using dollars devalues the Cambodian currency, so you might consider changing your money to Riel. Beware that worn dollar bills, or even presenting a small tear, will not be accepted in Cambodia.

There are several ways to travel from Phnom Penh to the provinces, even to the neighboring countries. By choosing a few select destinations, as opposed to traveling all over Cambodia in order to see and do everything, you will save money and time. Consider the logistics of your trip. It takes a lot of time to travel and settle down at your destination.

Getting Around Cambodia

Tuk Tuk or Romork (Khmer Language)
Tuk-tuks are the most common means of transportation in Cambodia.
• It is always advisable to negotiate the price in advance.
• Prices usually start from USD 2.00
• A 15-minute ride typically costs around USD 2.00 to 2.50 (8,000 to 10,000 Riels)
• Rates may be higher at night and when carrying more passengers.

BUS (Inter-Province Travel)

Buses are the most popular way to travel to other provinces. Departures are available hourly from Phnom Penh. On regular days, some bus companies provide complimentary hotel pick-up.
Popular destinations include:

• Sihanoukville
• Kep / Kampot

Private Car Rental (Including Driver)
